FPAI focuses on maternal health in Nagaland

Kohima, Aug 30 : The Nagaland branch of the Family Planning Association of India (FPAI) has said it has focused on the maternal health and universal access to reproductive health, which is the goal of the Millennium Development Goad (MDG-5) introduced in 2000 by the United Nations to achieve a series of economic, health and social targets by the year 2015.

Addressing a press conference here last night FPAI president Mrs Sarah Nuh said the Nagaland branch provides a wide spectrum of services which encompassed maternal health, child survival, adolescent care, HIV/AIDS, safe abortion and sexual and reproductive health services, including family planning.

Nagaland FPAI Programme Officer Vizalenu Khatso, told mediapersons that the increase in mortality rate among women during pregnancy and other related issues in the state, maternal health has been a national agenda for several decades but has undergone significant shifts in programme emphasis.

Nagaland FPAI Branch Manager V Vincent Belho explained the objectives behind conducting the media advocacy programme, which is aimed at creating awareness and promoting dialogue among a broad range of state and community leaders. The programme also aimed to organize meetings and programmes to convince key programmes to convince key programme managers, opinion leaders and policy makers.
