Nagaland Government appeals to stop dumping garbage to avoid landslides

Kohima, Jul 13 : The Nagaland Government has appealed to the public to refrain from dumping waste materials and garbage along the NH29 in and around Kohima so as not to create water logging and landslides.

The commissioner and secretary, Government of Nagaland Temjen Toy, in a note issued yesterday, said, ''Despite efforts made by the district administration of Kohima, it has been reported that illegal dumping of garbage and waste material continues unabated alongside NH-29, especially near Naga Hospital Kohima. Such dumping has led to stagnation of water causing major problems.'' He further said, ''If it continues, there is strong likelihood of huge landslides in the area during monsoon. The government appeals to all concerned to desist from such illegal dumping in the interest of the public. The government also appeals to all citizens to report any such dumping to the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Kohima so that punitive actions can be taken against the offenders.
