Rights activist conferred int’l award

KOHIMA, March 28 – In recognition of his tireless work for peace and justice, Rev Dr Wati Aier, convener of the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) has been conferred the prestigious Baptist World Alliance (BWA) Denton and Janice Lotz Human Rights Award.

This was announced by the BWA in a statement received here recently.

With this, Dr Aier, also the principal of Oriental Theological Seminary (OTS) of Dimapur, has joined the likes of former US President and Nobel Peace Laureate Jimmy Carter, who was the first recipient of the award in 1995.

The award will be conferred to him during the BWA annual gathering, which will be held in Kuala Lumpur later in the year.

“Aier is being recognised for his work in helping to broker the signing of a peace accord between three nationalist groups in Nagaland in September 2010,” the award committee said.
