Rio informs House on Indo-Naga peace process

Kohima, Mar 28 : Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has said that the State Government is not in a position to inform the progress of the peace talks between the Government and the NSCN-IM, since the State Government is not a party to the political talks.

Replying to a question of Leader of Opposition Tokheho Yepthomi in the Question Hour of the Budget Session of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly yesterday, Mr Rio apprised the House on the 'good job' done by the State Government-constituted Political Affairs Committee (PAC) of the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) in contacting and talking to various Naga underground groups with a view to persuade them to sink their differences.

He said that the state government had also facilitated the formation of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on the Naga political issue with the purpose of working for the unity of the Naga nationalist groups and strengthening the Naga political cause.

Mr Rio said that the DAN Government had also taken a decision to make way for any alternative Government that might be necessitated by the peaceful and satisfactory resolution of the Naga political issue.
