Kohima, Mar 24 : The State Cabinet Sub-Committee, formed in 2009 to help resolve the various problems reported in Nagaland University (NU), visited the varsity headquarters at Lumami and met with the Vice-Chancellor Prof K Kannan.

Official sources here today said the Cabinet Sub-Committee was led by its chairman as well as Planning Minister T R Zeliang along with the members - Minister Health and Family Welfare Kuzholuzo Neinu, Home Minister Imkong L Imchen, Minister Roads and Bridges G Kaito Aye, Forest Minister M C Konyak and Commissioner and Secretary F P Solo as member secretary attended the meeting.

A closed door meeting was held between the Sub-Committee and the Vice Chancellor. However, after the meeting was over, the Sub-Committee members disclosed that they were supposed to meet both the Vice-Chancellor as well as members from Nagaland University Teachers Association (NUTA), but the latter refused to attend the meeting and therefore had to continue the meeting with V-C alone.

Meanwhile the Central Executive Council of NUTA has written a letter to the Chairman of the Cabinet Sub-Committee on Nagaland University stating their inability to attend the meeting.

The letter, appended by president Rosemary Dzuvichu and secretary general D N Venuh, regretted that they had to turn down the invitation as the Central Executive Committee of NUTA has taken the decision not to attend the said meeting.

The letter also added that the NUTA had met the highest authority, the visitor of Nagaland University, the President at Kohima on March 9, 2011 and have put forth a charter of demands. The letter also added that the President had taken immediate cognizance and directives have been issued.
