NPMHR queries Guv on NU mess

Dimapur, November 26 : The Naga People’s Movement for Human Rights today queried the Chief Rector of Nagaland University stating that corruption charges have been substantiated against its vice chancellor yet there is seen “no semblance of any action being initiated or contemplated to reprimand his illegal and unbecoming acts.”
The NPMHR took cognizance of the charges against the vice chancellor of the university “of which we are made to understand that ample proof have been substantiated” and expressed doubt at the investigations of the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI).
In a letter addressed to the Chief Rector, the NPMHR said the governor is aware of the charges against the VC of NU “of which we are made to understand that ample proof have been substantiated.” Likewise, the NPMHR said charges against certain officials of the university have been substantiated and disciplinary action is being “initiated.”
“From all we learn, the vice chancellor is the main accused in the corruption charges and the perpetrator of the unfortunate fiasco in the university. The CBI, we learn, has been handling the case for quite some time now. Yet we notice no semblance of any action being initiated or contemplated to reprimand his illegal and unbecoming acts.” The NPMHR reminded that the university can never grow to cater to the people when there are “such alleged unlawful acts of embezzlement.”
Here the NPMHR queried the governor whether the CBI’s “handling of the case” is “farcical if not just an eyewash to condone the illegal and unethical acts of the vice chancellor.” The NPMHR also sought response from the governor whether the Union Ministry of Human Resources has taken due cognizance of the “enormity of the offenses committed by the vice chancellor.”
The organization has sought the governor’s intervention to “restore justice and good health” to the university. The NPMHR has assured the governor of cooperation.
