MHA yet to allocate arms, ammunition to State police

The Nagalandstate government said that the newly raised battalions of Nagaland were yet to receive arms and ammunition.

Nagaland home minister Imkong L. Imchen said that arms and ammunition for 12th, 13th 14th and 15th NAP (India Reserve) Battalions were yet to be received by the state police.

In his written reply to Congress MLA S. I. Jamir, the home minister explained that when new battalions was created, a demand was placed for arms and ammunition to the Nodal agency - the BSF.

The same is processed and submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) for allocation. Allocations are made by MHA and placed to various ordinance factories in the country.

The factories send Performa invoices to the concerned states and payment made by the state. Then only, the ordinance factories intimate the concerned states about the date for collection of arms and ammunition.

In case of 12 and 13 IR battalions, the Performa invoices were received in the month of August 2009 and payment was made by the state in the month of September.

The ordinance factory located in Tamil Nadu was yet to intimate the state when the arms and ammunitions were to be collected. With regard to 14 and 15 IR battalions, it was in the process as MHA was yet to allocate the ordinance factory.

Replying to another starred question, Imchen said that there was no reconditioned SLRs being procured by the department.
