NE states showcase traditional sports in Hornbill Festival

Kisama, Dec 3 : Traditional games from the northeastern states took the centre stage during the evening of the second day of National Hornbill Festival at Kisama today.

Meghalaya, which means 'Abode of Clouds'- displayed one of their most popular sport and past time of the Khasi Community 'Archery'.

Nagaland Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism, Yitachu and Commissioner and Secretary for Tourism Himato Zhimomi also took part in the archery.

A group of sportspersons from Arunachal Pradesh also played two different indigenous games of Nyishi Tribes in Arunachal Pradesh - Dopo and Bobo - the risky rope games which requires balance, tricks, energy and stamina.

To mark the 'festival of festivals', National Hornbill Festival of Nagaland, the artists from Mizoram today played the famous game called 'Insuk Nawr' and an indigenous style of wrestling 'Inbuan'.

Chandi, Chutkey and Marium Dances from Sikkim and Lebang Boomani and Garia dance from Tripura were also performed.
