Mega Honey Festival in NER Agri Expo 2010 at Dimapur

Kohima, Dec 11 : The Mega Nagaland Honey Festival 2010, a unique and first-of-its-kind event, organised by the Nagaland Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM), will be held concurrently with the 2nd North East Agri Expo 2010 to begin at Dimapur from December 15 to 19 next.

According to a statement issued by the Mission Director and team leader of the NBHM Mhathung Yanthan here today, the event will highlight the role of different players and stakeholders that goes into the making of a vibrant and ever-growing beekeeping and honey industry.

It will also provide an opportunity to interact, explore, collaborate, exchanges of learning and experiences, besides meeting people who are involved in beekeeping and honey sector from India and neighbouring countries and particularly the beekeeping community of North Eastern Region of India.

The NBHM will host and organise the festival by providing exhibition stalls for participants who are involved with beekeeping and honey enterprise.

It will also showcase the beekeeping scenario of Nagaland and involve the participation of local beekeepers and entrepreneurs in the sector.

''It will be a sort of an expo within an expo. It is expected to draw a lot of eager bee and honey enthusiasts not only from Nagaland but from the rest of the north eastern region,'' the sources said.

Participants will include commercial beekeepers; beekeeping organisations and International Associations involved in beekeeping and honey development projects; companies and suppliers of Beekeeping Equipment, traders of honey and hive products like pollen, royal jelly, propolis, wax and value added products and api-therapists (practice of bee as medicines).

The NBHM has further informed that within the main honey pavilion, stalls on photo exhibition, beekeeping tools and equipments, honey cosmetics and toiletries, honey medicines, api-therapy, honey confectionaries, sale of different types of honey and bee products and many others will be set up during the week-long NER Agri Expo, 2010.
