The Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) called for “inclusiveness” among Naga militant groups at a closed door meeting in Dimapur yesterday. It was attended by 44 organisations.
The convenor of the forum, Rev. Wati Aier, said they had suggested that NSCN (I-M) chairman Isak Chishi Swu, NSCN (K) chairman S.S. Khaplang and the president of the Federal Government of Nagaland (S), Singnya, should meet without any delay to work out the mechanism for inclusiveness to begin a joint dialogue with the Centre.
The three leaders had signed a Covenant of Reconciliation last year, whereby they had agreed to cease all forms of violence and discuss a mechanism for peace, reconciliation and unity among the three groups. But there has been sporadic violence among the groups, leading to concern among Naga organisations.
Aier hinted that Swu and Khaplang might meet soon but did not disclose the venue or date of the meeting.
Sources in the FNR said the top leaders of the three militant groups would meet at Chiang Mai, Thailand, in the last week of this month.
Khaplang who has been hiding in the jungles of Myanmar, is expected to attend the Chiang Mai meet. While some sources said he would not, C. Singson, a senior NSCN (K) kilonser (minister), who is also a member of the Joint Working Group of the three factions, told this correspondent that Khaplang “is for Naga reconciliation” and would meet Swu and other top leaders of the three groups.
He hinted that Khaplang might visit Nagaland latest by January next year.
