‘Disturbed Area status could affect Naga peace talks’

Dimapur, Nov 17 : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Nagaland State unit held its 3rd State Executive Meeting, today at the Meqlat Cafeteria, Khermahal Dimapur. Tapir Gao, national secretary & 'Prabhari' of Nagaland and P. Chandra Shekhar Rao, North East in-charge, BJP were present as chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
“In Kashmir we need AFSPA, but in North-Eastern region, there should be amendments/modifications in clauses,” stated Tapir Gao, national secretary & 'Prabhari' Nagaland, referring to the implementation issue of Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA) in the state. “Kashmir cannot be compared to N.E states” he said during a press conference which was held, after the executive meeting.
Commenting on “Disturbed Area Act” in the state, the party stated opposition to the extension opining that it could immensely effect the ‘peace process’ between the Centre and the Naga political groups. It also stated appreciation of the painful initiative taken by Forum for Naga Reconciliation for feeling of oneness among various Naga political groups.
P Chandra Shekhar Rao, North East in-charge, BJP meanwhile, stated that the current focus point of the party is to fight against corruption in all levels. “Large scale corruptions at all the levels in the various departments should be checked and controlled. The responsible government should ensure free and fair municipal and town council elections on time,” the party said. Rao also informed that BJP has directed all its state units to study local issues and will also soon start putting pressure on the government agencies. “A responsible government should ensure social security in the state,” he said.
BJP Nagaland also stated support to the 33% women reservation in civic polls. Economic resolutions like maintaining prices of essential commodities against further price rise, and illegal taxation/donation/collections should be banned and preventive measure taken. The party also said that it always uphold the principle of fundamental economy of the people particularly those residing in the rural and remote areas and the weaker sections to ensure availability of essential commodities at affordable process for better standard of living.
The party also advocated maintaining transparency in Public Distribution System (PDS) in order to benefit the common people. The government should strongly resolve to protect land and its resources in Nagaland. Meanwhile, in the social front, the party called for cooperation and participation of civil societies and organizations in the development programmes of the government.
