Naga women cops get pat on back from PC

New Delhi, Oct 18 : They loved the streets of Delhi, its flea markets and the grandeur of the Commonwealth Games (CWG). On Saturday they even got a word of praise from the Union Home Minister P Chidambaram. The 800-odd women from Nagaland Police who are part of Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) and fresh out of training school were especially called to the city to provide security cover at markets, bus stands and other public places during the CWG.

Speaking to the members of the first Nagaland Mahilla Battalion, which was deployed for the Games, he said, "You have done a splendid job and I would like to warmly congratulate you for the outstanding work you have done in the last two weeks."

While the job of protecting the city did not leave them with much time to do what women (be they soldiers or teachers) love best — shopping — they managed to take some time out from their hectic schedule.

And off they went on shopping sprees to Janpath and Sarojini Nagar, buying everything from stoles and fancy tops to junk jewellery.

“We did not get much time to shop. But we managed to visit both Sarojini Nagar and Janpath. I loved Janpath because they have such a huge variety of junk jewellery.

I shopped for almost everything I could find,” said Nisi (20). There are others who bought gifts for relatives back home.
