JPWC meet Naga leaders to find ‘common Naga voice’

KOHIMA, April 4 – The Joint Parliamentary Working Committee (JPWC) of the Nagaland Assembly on Naga political issue will meet different Naga leaders for consultation to find a ‘common Naga voice’.

Official sources said the resolution was taken during a sitting of the Committee, which was constituted last year with legislators cutting across party lines, under the chairmanship of Nagaland Assembly Speaker Kiyanilie Peseyie.

Adopting a four-point resolution, the Committee reiterated its appreciation of the signing of the ‘Covenant of Reconciliation’ by the underground groups and appealed to all groups to stay true to the Covenant by stopping violence and fratricidal killings and also to unite so as to facilitate early resolution of the Naga political issue.

The JPWC also welcomed the renewed efforts of the UPA Government and the NSCN in resuming the Indo-Naga political dialogue while calling upon the negotiating parties to expedite the ongoing negotiation in order to bring about a political solution that is honourable and acceptable to the people.

Reiterating its commitment to make all efforts to create conditions that would be conducive to the peace process, the Committee, which is a first of its kind in the Assembly, also resolved to bring lasting peace in Nagaland.

The four-point resolution was signed by Speaker Kiyanilie Peseyie, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Opposition leader Tokheho Yepthomi.
