New scheme for Naga cuisine, textiles

Kohima, March 31: A new scheme to standardize and promote Naga cuisine as was visualized by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio is being undertaken by the Women Development department for 2009-2010.
The initiative is to identify the food specialties that are distinct to each tribe and to eventually bring them together, creating holistic packages that can be branded as special cuisine common to all Nagas. The annual administrative report of the Women Development department tabled in the just-concluded assembly session here by parliamentary secretary for social welfare and women development Chotisuh Sazo.
The report said that district-wise cooking competitions are being organized during road shows. Alongside this programme, the report said, another project to promote Naga textiles is also in the pipeline. Documentation of various traditional attires is in progress, it stated.
