Planning Minister addressing the crowd at during Mimkut Festival at Athibung town On Sunday.
Peren, January 19 : Nagaland Minister for Planning & Coordination TR Zeliang today said India’s “Vision 2020” for the North East should not remain on paper alone, but should become a reality, so that people of the north east come at par with the rest of the country as according to the development vision envisaged in the document.
Addressing the 6th state-level Mimkut Festival of the Kuki community here at Athibung town on Sunday as chief guest, TR Zeliang said that the much-hyped ‘Look East policy’ has crossed more than 12 years. But till date, he said, ‘not an inch of railway line has extended to the region or air connectivity to connect North East and the rest of India with south Asian countries.’ There is a tremendous trade potential for the development of the NE region, the minister said.
“Look East Policy has cross 12 years but till date not even an inch of railway line has been extended or for that matter, air connectivity under this policy. And now, new Vision 2020 document for NE has been drafted. This document should not remain in paper alone but become a reality” he said.
Zeliang was trying to remind the people that under this “Vision 2020” people of Nagaland along with the rest of north eastern states will enjoy maximum development like good roads, good communication and other infrastructure. But the people have to reciprocate with proper utilization of their rich natural resources, he said.
“We have rich natural resource. Our land are fertile and agriculture and horti-productions are high, but if we cannot market these produces by taking advantage of roads and other facilities which is coming from all this policy,” he said. TR Zeliang asserted that unless people make use of their produce, development programmes and policies will become futile.
TR Zeliang also said that the people of Nagaland are now celebrating festivals peacefully and harmonious because of the peaceful situation in the state. He attributed the return of peace situation to the state as ‘God blessing.’ He said that in the past several governments had tried their best to bring peace in the state but could not do it successfully. He claimed that it was the ‘DAN government’ under chief minister Neiphiu Rio which could bring real peace in the state.
“The DAN government has managed to work out effective peace formula, under our slogan ‘Peace Development and Development for Peace,” TR Zeliang claimed.
He also asserted that unless Naga political issue is settled or honorable solution is brought about there won’t be real peace. He urged the people to ‘pray’ for lasting peace in the state. The Mimkut festival of the Kuki community was celebrated with much pomp and gaiety with colorful folk dances and songs. Kuki from Assam and Manipur state and Zeliangrong community also partook in the festival.
