NSUD voice concern against ‘goondaism’

Dimapur, November 7 (MExN): The Naga Students’ Union of Delhi today took strong exception to another “Goondaism of those locals” at Kotla Mubarakhpur, on November 5 in New Delhi. The miscreants threw food at two Naga men at an eatery and later assaulted the two with bricks and sticks. The assault left the two men with serious injuries in the face and head.

The victims were hospitalised at AIIMS Trauma Centre. Yanshumthung suffered fractures in the face. He was operated on successfully on November 7.
The attack comes just in the wake of protests against the murder of a girl from NE in New Delhi recently. The union said in a note today that while Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit had assured the students that there will be more security for North Easterners, “it is regrettable that after such assurance and having meetings with police officers, such racial attacks are taking place once again against the North East people.” The union also expressed displeasure and sadness at what it stated is the “insensitiveness of locals in Delhi who have seldom tried to understand the lifestyle and cultures of the North Eastern people.” The NSUD has demanded that the authority take strong action against the miscreants who committed the crime against the two NE students.
“We assure the victims that we will always be with you until justice is done. We also assure the student community that we will keep on fighting for the (safety) and security of our people in Delhi. We appeal each and every one to keep vigil wherever you may be, and we also seek co-operation from the entire North Eastern population in our effort to make ourselves safe and secure from the miscreants and racial attacks,” the union stated.
