Sibsagar Superintendent of Police S P Saikia told PTI that around 10 am this morning, villagers of Phisingpani under Nazira sub-division spotted a group of Naga youths cleaning the road leading from Geleki in Assam to Mokokchung in Nagaland.
Later, two tea garden owners, Mushtaque Ahmed and Nandeswar Gogoi reported to the police that nearly 70 tea bushes in their gardens were destroyed by these youths.
Senior civil and police officials rushed to the spot and entered Inaki basti in Nagaland to conduct an inquiry into the incident.
The village council chairman of the Nagaland village, however, said that he and the other villagers were not aware of youths entering Assam.
