UNC to boycott Manipur govt celebrations

Imphal: Upping the ante in its demand for Alternative Arrangement (AA) for Nagas in Manipur, United Naga Council (UNC) said Nagas will not participate in any Independence Day celebration organized by the state. It added that they had already declared severance of political ties with the state government.

The organization accused the state government of launching an "aggressive backdoor policy" to usurp tribal land through the New Land Use Policy of Manipur, 2014, introduction of village development committees and appointment of revenue tribunals.

There will, however, be no restriction on observing the day, said UNC, a conglomeration of various Naga civil bodies of the state.

To press the Centre on granting Alternative Arrangement (AA) for Manipur's Nagas, UNC has already conducted various meetings and campaigns in the state's Naga Areas.
