Japanese Encephalitis enters Nagaland

Japanese Encephalitis, which has created havoc in neighbouring Assam claiming several lives, entered several parts of Nagaland, especially areas bordering Assam. Several cases have been detected in Dimapur and Tuli areas of Mokokchung district.

According to official sources so far a total of five cases of Japanese Encephalitis were reported in Dimapur during past one week in some hospitals. Sources disclosed that the vector-borne disease may take an endemic form in Dimapur.

However, there was no report of any death so far. Sources said a few cases have been reported in parts of the state bordering Assam, such as in Tuli area under Mokokchung district and outskirts of Dimapur. The patients are being treated in various hospitals.
