The NSF has detected three off campus study centres of CMJ University in Dimapur, which are functioning in violation of the UGC (Establishment of and Maintenance of Standards in Private University) Regulations, 2003, and the decision of Supreme Court (2005).
The CMJ is now under the scanner for awarding thousands of fake degrees to students over the last three years. The NSF has asked the study centres of CMJ to refund fees to newly admitted students. The centres have been allowed to keep the offices open only for the purpose of responding to the queries of aggrieved students and refunding their fees.
According to the NSF, one of the CMJ study centres located on the 3rd floor above Popular Bakery was started in 2010. Altogether, 144 students have already passed out of this centre, which was offering degrees courses such as BA, BEd, BCom and MA. Out of the 17 newly admitted students, 13 have reclaimed their admission fees from the centre. This year, 82 students were supposed to sit for their examinations. However, the exams have been postponed until further notice. Seventeen candidates have also enrolled for their PhD course, out of which two have already opted out.
Another CMJ off campus study centre was detected at Isaac Newton School, Sematilla, in Dimapur. This centre, established in 2012, offered only BEd programme. Six students have already passed out.
For the current session, 46 students enrolled into the BEd course at the centre and five students out of these have already been refunded their fees.
Another CMJ study centre was found at Chumukedima in Dimapur district. The NSF has asked all three study centres of CMJ to refund fees to newly admitted students within one month starting from May 31.
It also warned the CMJ study centres in the state to refund the full amount of money to the newly admitted students or face necessary action.
The NSF has also asked the three study centres to submit the complete details of the fees paid, addresses and phone numbers of all the students, who passed out or enrolled into the centres.
