Naga youth group scales Mount Saramati

Kohima, Dec 19 : A group of Naga youths and a team from the Assam Rifle (AR) have successfully scaled Mount Saramati, the highest peak of Nagaland at an altitude of 3840 m, after a gap of 30 years.

According to a release from the Inspector General of Assam Rifles (North) today, the team led by Major Ajay Balakrishna of AR with included 18 Naga boys and 11 Naga girls, scaled the highest peak in Nagaland, on December 14.

The note stated that the expedition was a small step towards a bigger goal of encouraging adventure among the youths of Nagaland by the Assam Rifle.

''Nagaland offers excellent opportunities to undertake adventure activities. In this, regard Assam Rifles has taken the lead to encourage the spirit of adventure amongst the youth. In addition to mountaineering, other adventure activities are also being planned by Assam Rifles and it is hoped that the youth will come forward to participate as well,'' the note further added.
