Nagaland govt to provide uniforms in schools

Kohima, Jul 22 :Nagaland School Education Minister Nyeiwang Konyak today announced that uniforms for government schools for both primary and middle school students would be provided soon.

Minister announced this during Golden Jubilee celebration of government middle school, Longkhum, in Mokokchung district.

Addressing the function as the chief guest, Mr Konyak said issuing uniforms to students in government schools is part of government’s effort to re-vamp education system.

He said the school education department has taken up massive exercise to ensure that teachers are well trained and qualified.

The minister, however, regretted that out of 9,000 (nine thousand) teachers in the state, only 30 per cent of them are trained and possessed required qualification in government schools.

He said there will be no compromise with quality and all teachers should have required qualification such as Pre-Service Teachers Education, Diploma in Education and B Ed.

On the issue of bogus teachers, the minister said after three years of rigorous investigation into the case the department has almost succeeded to clear the mess.

He said government is now on the job to re-deploy those genuine teachers.

Stating that revamping teaching-learning process not only lies with the government, Mr Konyak said it requires close co-operation of village education committees and village authorities.

Nagaland home minister Imkong L Imchen urged Longkhum villagers to set their target to produce illustrious students and leaders as they have done in the past from this school in the next 25 years.

He also thanked the minister for school education for instantly consenting to be chief guest on the occasion.

The celebration was attended among others by Toshipokba, MLA, senior officers from the school education department, district officials and the villagers.
