Naga students continue picketing in front of power office

The Naga Students Federation (NSF) continued their picketing for the second day today in front of the office of the chief engineer of the Power department of Nagaland in support of their demand for dismissal of the backdoor appointees in the department. The ongoing agitation, which had continued since yesterday, has paralysed work in the office of chief engineer here as the picketers barred employees from entering the office premises. The NSF is agitating after the departments 'failure' to initiate positive steps in response to the Representation and ultimatum of the NSF submitted on June 14 and July 14 to the State Power Department for the dismissal of the five backdoor appointments. Moreover, the NSF demanded strict adherence to 60 per cent vacancies for open recruitment through Nagaland Public Service Commission. It also demanded that any direct recruitment or departmental promotion be exercised as per the prescribed norms. However, he expressed hope that the Government will respond positively by late this evening. Meanwhile, the NSF had sought the cooperation of the Kohima police with regard to the ongoing agitation against the backdrop of what it termed as the 'incompetent and backdoor appointments under power department'.
