Dimapur-Kohima power transmission line under landslide threat

Kohima, Jul 29 : The main power transmission line, that supplies power from Dimapur to Kohima, has been affected following landslide in the area triggered by heavy rains throughout the state for the past one month.

According to official sources, one transmission tower, connecting Kohima and Karong in Manipur, had already collapsed following a landslide while the main transmission between Dimapur and Kohima is is in precarious condition.

The Nagaland Department of Power informed that the 132 KV transmission tower, connecting Kohima and Karong in Manipur, has already snapped following landslide near Phesama, on July 26.

The collapse had affected inter-state power connectivity. The said transmission line is utilised as an alternative for power transmission whenever the regular 132 KV Dimapur-Kohima transmission line snaps.

Sources further informed that the 132 KV Dimapur-Kohima transmission lines near the Assam Rifles camp in Piphema under Kohima district might also collapse.

''The Power supply to the state capital and the rest of the state, except Dimapur, will be completely disrupted since the alternative transmission line connecting Kohima-Karong (Manipur) is already damaged and restoration of such line normally takes a long time,''the sources said.
