Persistent downpour triggers landslides across Nagaland

Kohima, Jun 22 : Continuous rainfall since past one week has trigerred landslides throughout Nagaland.

Official reports reaching here today said several houses were damaged at Mokokchung after heavy downpour on Monday night (last night).

District Administration, Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) and concern officials visited the affected houses in different wards.

Three houses were badly damaged in Artang and Majakong wards, while minor damage in Artang, Majakong and Alempang wards were also reported.

Besides many roads were blocked in and around Mokokchung town affecting vehicular movements.

District Administration, Mokokchung Municipal Council and Department of Food and Civil Supplies have given cash and kind to the major affected families as immediate relief.

While personnel of fire services and ward members are giving their best effort to restore the damage.

Meanwhile, reports of small to medium landslides were pouring from all the eleven districts of Nagaland, however, there was to report of any blockade of roads, including National Highways number 29, 61 and 156 and movement of smooth traffic is on, sources added.
