Speaking to mediapersons in Dimapur yesterday, the senior Congress leader pointed out that Air India was the only flight service provider in the state.
However, he lamented at the cancellations and rescheduling of flights almost everyday which is causing immense harassment and inconveniences to passengers, including patients who need medical treatment, students, business persons, officials on duty.
Mr Chishi also underlined that neighbouring states like Manipur, Tripura and Mizoram have regular flights, besides being connected with various airlines like Kingfisher, Jet and others.
Taking the specific example of Manipur, he said it had direct flights from Delhi and Kolkata to Imphal as well as other private airlines also operating in the state.
The former chief minister said, ''It is unfortunate that we have only one airline operating in our state which gives below-par service.'' Two days a week, it operates via Dimapur to Dibrugarh and back to Kolkata and another two days via Dibrugarh-Dimapur-Kolkata, he added.
Air India is meting out step motherly treatment to Nagaland which was evident from their apathetic attitude towards us the senior Congress MLA alleged.
He also lambasted the state government for not taking any steps to address this issue.
