According to police, the truck was stolen from Bokakhat area in Golaghat district by two persons who tried to take it away to Nagaland via the Mariani-Nagaland road. The truck, which was owned by a Guwahati-based businessman, was stolen by the miscreants who assaulted the driver and tossed him into the jungle in Bokakhat. However, police have also recovered the injured truck driver and he is now undergoing treatment at Bokakhat civil hospital; he was said to be in a critical condition.
Officer in-charge of Mariani police station, Deven Chandra Nath, said, "We caught two men with a stolen truck at Nagajanka tiniali early this morning. The truck was stolen from Bokakhat area in Golaghat district by two persons who tried to take it to Nagaland. One of the thieves, Mahmmad Nazim Ali of Chandrapur Panikheti in Guwahati, has been arrested. However, the other man, who was also in the truck, managed to escape. From the confessional statement of the arrested person, it has been confirmed that the other person was Mahmmad Taher Ali."
"The stolen truck was recovered during a regular check up. The arrested man, during interrogation, confessed he and his partner had stolen the truck from Bokakhat area after assaulting the driver and were driving it to Nagaland to sell it there," the OC said, adding that last month a Safari was stolen from Hatisungi Komargaon in Mariani and the superintendent of police (Jorhat), Sanjucta Parasor, had ordered a high alert at all check gates and intensification of the checking operations of police in the district.
