Over 1 Lakh illiterate in 3 districts of Nagaland

Kohima, May 30 : A survey, conducted at state level, has showed that the total number of illiterate in the Kiphire, Longleng and Tuensang districts of Nagaland is over lakh.

The Director of the State Research Centre, Tripura Prantosh Datta disclosed the survey report today. A programme, Saakshar Bharat was officially launch on September 8, 2009 by the Prime Minister where 365 districts in India were selected for the programme, including these districts of Nagaland.

The main objective of the programme was to uplift the poor socio-economic rung of the illiterate people.

The programme had, on the list, functional literacy, basic education, vocational and skill development, besides education in village and block level.

According to official sources, Mr Datta, while speaking at a one-day training camp on Saakshar Bharat said, ''Women participation is the most important factor in every society in order to shape up the future.'' Mr Datta said the village Councils should take the main role to initiate this programme where they can better control the whole village with the aim to uplift the rural people.
