Nagaland imports meat worth Rs 600 Cr:Minister

Nagaland Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Minister T R Zeliang has expressed serious concern over the state's import of various meat and meat products at the cost of over Rs 600 crore per year.

According to official sources here today, Mr Zeliang, at an inaugural function, informed that the state is importing around 60 per cent of its total requirement of meat and meat products amounting to a loss of over Rs 300 Crore.

The Minister also informed that Nagaland has a farming community covering 72 per cent of the total population and emphasised on the need to strengthen the economy at the grassroots level as the 'village economy is the economy of the state'.
