NPF accuses Congress of false propaganda

Dimapur, May 31 : The NPF Central office Kohima today laid a scathing attack on the Nagaland Congress party accusing the latter of a number of malpractices in the run up to the April 16 polls. Licho T Thonger, secretary NPF in a note accused the congress of availing “services of some underground” to create panic among the people in areas under Kiphire district.

NFP claimed that “threatening Azah’s (orders) were circulated repeatedly with capital punishment” for those who worked for the DAN candidate.

“Another propaganda played by the Congress party is that the DAN candidate had killed one GB with his personal arms in the midst of a meeting under the cover of undergrounds leading to mass desertion from NPF to Congress in Tuensang district,” the NPF asserted.

On the Congress accusation of NPF’s insincerity towards the Naga political problem and use of factional support to intimidate the electorate, NPF responded: “They have totally forgotten why the issue of the Naga political problem is still unsolved even after 50 years.”

“Had the Congress party agreed with the decision of the Naga Hoho to boycott the 1988 general elections in the state with the slogan of ‘solution first, Election later’ Govt. of India could have given a serious thought on the issue and something could have emerged by now.” Despite all political parties heeding to the call of the Naga Hoho to boycott the elections, NPF reminded that it was the Congress that went ahead with the polls “winning almost all the seats uncontested with the help of the Naga undergrounds”.

On the Congress criticism of the NPF led DAN offering unconditional support to the UPA, NPF said the Nagaland Congress are “still self centered and jealous” about the DAN’s support to the UPA.

“Yes, no party can efficiently run the Govt. without constructive criticism from the opponent parties in a democratic system of Govt. But it does not mean that being in the opposition, its leaders should criticize the good deeds of the Govt. just because you are not in that part,” the NPF told the Congress.
