Assam Police leaves Naga school defunct

Dimapur, April 24 : The Phom Laivangh Pangthai (Phom Students’ Conference) today informed that the Government Primary School (GPS) at Ladaigarh is not allowed to function due to the illegal occupation of the school by the Assam Police since last year.
Even voters of the area, which falls under Nagaland, were not allowed to vote during the April 16 parliamentary election because of the illegal occupation by the Assam police. The GPS of Ladaigarh happens to be polling station No 1 of the 49 Tamlu Assembly Constituency.
Informing this in a note, the Phom Students’ Conference vice president, H Leekei Phom said that the students’ community is more distressed and disturbed to see that the school is not allowed to function, denying students to attend school and learn. He said that the future of the students is being destroyed by “these senseless acts of Assam police” and also the delay of the government of Nagaland in responding to the crisis which should have taken top priority considering the parliamentary election which was held on April 16.
“If the crisis is delayed for any further the state government should be held solely responsible for any consequences,” the PSC said.
Asserting that the Phom Students’ Conference is ready to stand for the rights of the students in any cause, the note appealed the state government to immediately intervene in the matter. The PSC warned that the Phom Students’ Conference would resort to own action in any manner if the government fails to intervene. Eventualities should not be blamed on the PS, it warned.
The PSC said it has been more than 38 years since the GPS of Ladigarh village was established by Education department Government of Nagaland. However, the Assam Police, ‘in a show of complete disregard to the peaceful co-existence of the people of the two states in the border area’, is illegally occupying the school since 2008, the PSC stated.
Questioning why the Assam Police is “creating unnecessary mischief after such a long time” the note said that the people of the village were not allowed to exercise their Fundamental Right of Adult Franchise. This is a direct insult to the Constitution of India, it said. The PSC asserted that the government of India should initiate sternest action against the offenders for the violation.
