The SUD noted that the miscreants, after torturing the victims mentally and physically, ransacked the victims’ house and looted cash and other valuable items. The organization said that the incident occurred when the mother and her daughter were fast asleep and when the husband was out of station. The SUD felt that such kinds of crimes are barbaric and inhumane crime. It is “beyond human toleration in a civilized society today” the union said.
Barbaric and Inhuman crime condemned
In connection with the incident, the SUD convened an emergency general meeting on March 27 during which the union unanimously resolved and proclaimed that the villagers would not remain as silent spectators on this case and decided to put all its efforts until justice was achieved. The SUD also appealed to all right-thinking citizens and NGOs to condemn the crime and to extend full cooperation to the law enforcing agencies to book the anti-socials at the earliest. The SUD also requested the security agencies not to allow any individual or groups to bail the arrested accused until all the involved criminals are arrested and punished. The press note cautioned that failure to take appropriate action, would invite the SUD to take its own course of action for which the union should not be held responsible for any untoward consequences.
The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has also vehemently condemned the gang-rape and the attempted murder of the victim’s mother by the criminals. A press note issued by the DNSU executives urged the authority in concern to speed up the investigations and capture the culprits at the earliest. The DNSU also appealed that the arrested culprits should not be bailed out and instead, the severest punishment should be meted out to them. The DNSU observed that the anti-social elements should be ‘terminated’ from the society lest they commit more crimes in the near future. The students have appealed to all right-thinking citizens to voice out their concern and condemn crime and the anti-social culture.
In a separate press note, the Ao Students Union Dimapur (ASUD) also condemned the barbaric act of dacoity and gang rape. The organization pointed out that such crimes as theft and rapes have no place at all in a civilized society. The ASUD in its press note issued by its executives, has urged the law enforcing agencies not to release the accused on bail but to award them exemplary punishment.
