Law and order in Nagaland improved, says speaker

Kohima , Mar 11 : Asserting that Nagaland government will continue to facilitate peace process between the Centre and Naga groups, Governor K Sankaranarayanan today said the law and order situation in the state has improved.

"The Democratic Alliance of Nagaland government will continue to be an active facilitator in the peace process between the Government of India and the Naga groups to arrive at a lasting and durable settlement acceptable to the Naga people,"he said addressing the assembly session.

Lauding the active roles of NGOs and churches to bring about re-conciliation and unity among the warring underground groups, the governor told the House that the state witnessed a considerable improvement in law and order since July last year and incidents of inter-factional clashes had significantly reduced.

The government also appreciated the commendable efforts put in by police, security forces, state level strategy groups and district level co-ordination groups in maintaining peace in the state, he said.

The speaker said the government was in the process of raising a few special commando companies to enable police to deal more effectively with the rising level of terrorist violence.
