A press release received here from the ‘Sumi Village Council’ which was appended by the ‘Sumi village VCC, Neitelo Rhakho, SVSU president, Pukha Wezah and chairman of Sumi Village Youth Society, Vesapa Wezah’ affirmed that the name of the “Sumi village” was mentioned in the news article “without any reason”
The release, while asserting that it is well known that Dr Yiepetso Wezah hails from Sumi village, it however stated that, “without mentioning the designation he carried as SBCC Golden Jubilee Chairman, they dragged Sumi Village into the issue”. In this regard, the release expressed unhappiness of the Sumi Village Council, Youth Society and Students’ Union towards the Chizami Adhoc Town Committee (CATC).
“In fact he wrote his regrets as Chairman of the Golden Jubilee for the objection raised by Chizami Adhoc Town committee regarding the erection of Golden Jubilee Memorial Stone,” the release stated. In this connection, the release stated that the Chizami Adhoc Town Committee (CATC) “not only personalized Dr Yiepetso Wezah, but also victimized the Sumi Village without civic sense”.
While asserting that the Sumi Village generously donated the land for SBCC Mission Centre and for the welfare of the people, the release however, stated that the CATC, “deliberately wanted to omit the name of Sumi who donated the land to SBCC”. “It has nothing to do with Chizami Adhoc Town committee, because they did not donate the land. The land donors should not be ignored rather they should be appreciated and recognized,” the release stated.
Nonetheless, the release disclosed that the SBCC recognized Sumi Village ‘with a grateful heart’ and expressed gratefulness for it to the SBCC. While saying that it is only the Chizami Adhoc Town Committee that ‘interferes’ to ignore Sumi Village, the release stated that Chizami New Town is the original Sumi Village of Lelemi Khel from where most of the Sumi’s migrated to different places.
“This is obviously known to the people of Secheku Area,” the release asserted, “But it is only manipulations, this place is called Chizami New Town.” In this regard, the release raised some serious questions.
“Now, what is the right of CATC to do away the right of land donor? Shouldn’t they be grateful to Sumi Village for donating their land for the welfare of the people? What has Sumi village done wrong against them that they should omit the name of Sumi? We condemn such ill-attitude towards Sumi village and appeal all the right thinking citizens to understand and recognize our rights,” the release stated.
