Naga girl bags Gold Medal in Communication Engg

Kohima, February 13 : A Naga girl has been awarded the Gold Medal by the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), in Belgaum, Karnataka, for her work in the field of Communication Engineering.

In the 8th annual convocation of the VTU, ‘Jnana Sangama’, in Belgaum, held on February 10, 35 students out of the 1200 students in M.Tech batch of 2008, were awarded gold medals. Nungshisenla Aier from Nagaland was one of the awardees.

Padma Vibhushan Dr. V S Arunchalam, chairman at the Center for Study of Science, Technology & Policy, Bangalore, and former scientific advisor to the Defence Minister of India, graced the occasion as the chief guest.

During the convocation, Gold Medals were awarded by Sri Aranvind Limbavali, Minister for higher education, Karnataka, who is also the pro-chancellor of VTU, while the welcome speech was presented by the vice-chancellor of VTU, Prof. H P Khincha.

A brief profile of Nungshisenla Aier, who was born on September 13, 1982, the daughter of Imsayuba Naga, and hailing from Waromung village, in Mokokchung district, is as follows:
1.    10th Std: First Class with Distinction in Maths from Chandmari Higher Secondary School, Kohima.
2.    12th Std: Kohima Science College, Jotsoma, with First Class.
3.    Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics and Communication at Malnad College of Engineering, Hassan, in First Class with Distinction.
4.    Master of Technology in Communication Systems at R.V. College of Engineering, Gold medallist 1st Rank.
She was also awarded 1st prize at the inter-university paper presentation for her paper on ‘Protocol for reliable communication using UDP over Satellite Link’ at University of Kurukshetra.

Her other works include:
•    Work on the project ‘Latency and Security of Satellite Communication for Internet’ at the Indian Space & Research Organization (ISRO), Bangalore.
•    Selected as member Research Staff at BEL.
•    Joined Central Research Laboratories, Bharat Electronics, (BEL) Ghaziabad as Member, Research Staff.
