Dimapur | February 25 : A sterling performance by all rounder Hokaito Zhimomi pulled off the match for Nagaland beating Arunachal Pradesh by 30 runs at the 1st NE T20 at Shillong polo ground this morning.
After having won the toss, Team Nagaland decided to bat first and put on board a modest 131 runs losing 8 wickets in the process. Hokaito Zhimomi top scored a blistering 58 runs in 46 balls and remained unbeaten. He was ably supported by Deepak Sinha who contributed 26 runs off 23 balls while Akhrietuo made a quick fire 20 in 12 balls. Arunachal did well to restrict Nagaland to a score of 131 with Tatung claiming 2 wickets while Pumar Dakryo and Techi took 1 wicket each.
NE T20 Cricket Tourney
With a required run rate of 6.6 runs per over to chase down the total Arunachal got off to a worst possible start with a run out losing its first wicket in the opening over. By the ninth over Arunachal was 3 wickets down for a paltry 37 runs on the scoreboard. Arunachal struggled with maintaining the required run rate and could only manage to score 101 runs losing 7 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Hokaito and Imliwati were the peak among the bowlers taking two wickets apiece, while Rakesh and Aosashi claimed one wicket each. Hokaito Zhimomi was adjudged the man of the match for his all round performance of 52 runs and 2 wickets.
Team Nagaland with another change of schedule by the organizers now faces Meghalaya on February 26 next at 12 noon.
Manipur crush Meghalaya
In the second match of the day, Manipur beat Meghalaya by 9 wickets. Having won the toss Meghalaya decided to bat first but failed to capitalize on it. Meghalaya were able to muster only 83 runs losing all its wickets with top scores of 38 runs by Jason and Pratik scoring 12 runs. Manipur had no difficulty in chasing down the total losing just one wicket in its innings. Sayed Mojibur Rehman top scored for Manipur with 42 in 47 balls while S Rajiv scored 26 runs from 41 balls.
Pitch to assist spinners
Meghalaya Cricket Association hosting the first ever NE T Twenty has prepared three pitches to be used alternately in the tournament. The pitch has been laid using Red soil which team officials expect would favour spinners rather than pace bowlers.
Batsmen are also expected to score well owing to the ball coming to the bat comfortably.
In this shorter version of the game, all states from the northeast except Tripura are participating in the Rs. 3 lakh prize tournament where Assam has been tipped as favourites to lift the trophy. The first NE T Twenty is being played on a league-cum-knockout basis with the white ball in use and coloured jerseys worn by players.
Two matches are being played daily, with the first match played at 8.30 am and the second match at 12 noon. Three Grade-I umpires from Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) are officiating at the tournament.
