Kohima, Nov 3 : In spite of Nagaland government’s plea to withdraw Nagaland from the “Disturbed Area” list, the Centre Monday declared Nagaland as ‘Disturbed Area’ for a further period. Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram while presenting the report card of the home ministry for the month of October, said the period has been extended from October 20, 2010 to June 30, 2011 under the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958. The central government was urged to withdraw the disturbed area tag, as the government of India was engaged in dialogue with both factions of NSCN. Nagaland received Rs.1.13 crore out of Rs. 586.2 crore released to states under the Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) scheme for state police forces in the financial year 2010-11. Chidambaram in his ministries report card mentioned that “Rs.1.13 crore was released for Nagaland, Punjab- Rs.15.14 crore, Orissa- Rs. 30.00 crore, Manipur- Rs. 11.66 crore and Jammu & Kashmir- Rs.1.07 crore— Total Rs. 58.94 crore”.
