Official sources here today said the MoU was signed at the Chumukedima Police Complex, about 15 kms from Dimapur, in presence of Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Bijoy Krishna Handique, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Nagaland Health and Family Welfare Minister Kuzholuzo Neinu.
Nagaland Commissioner and Secretary for Health and Family Welfare Menukhol John signed the MoU on behalf of the State Government, Dr BV Philip on behalf of CIHSR and JN Sharma, Advisor (Health), on behalf of NEC.
Speaking at the function Mr Handique expressed the hope that the multi disciplinary NERIPS will meet the requirements of the people. He maintained that the North Eastern Region alone requires more that 3.4 lakh paramedics as per WHO norms and called for greater and focused approach to develop human resources in the sector. He said the national programmes of the Central Government were facing an acute shortage of trained paramedical staff at different levels.
He also disclosed that the Union Cabinet had approved the establishment of a National Institute of Paramedical Science (NIPS) at Najafgarh, New Delhi, along with alto eight other Regional Institute of Paramedical Sciences throughout the country. He informed that an additional 10,620 seats will be created annually through the Paramedical Institutes at a total projected cost of Rs 1150 crores.
