Night curfew along Assam-Nagaland border

JORHAT, Aug 7 – The district megistrate of Jorhat by an order imposed night curfew along the Assam-Nagaland border areas and promulgated Section 144 of CrPC in the district with effect from today to prevent any subversive activities by militant outfits before Independence Day.

By the order, the megistrate said that according to the section 144 of CrPC the people would abstrain from forming assembly of five or more persons and picketing or taking out procession, holding any meeting at public places during the period.

The order also said that ,the people were asked not to carry explosive or weapons including lathies, stones, bows and arrows or any instrument that can be used as weapons to cause obstruction or injuries to a person or public properties. Organising meetings, taking out processions or shouting slogans on road or public places and shouting or abusing any defamatory slogans against state or any person, group of persons or organizations in any meeting procession or rallies have been barred during this period.

The order also prohibited publication and display of objectionable posters, playcards, cartoons, effigies and wall writing. The order has also prohibited two riders on a motorbike and puting on military uniforms by the civilians.
