Nagas rally for early political solution

IMPHAL, March 2 : Thousands of Nagas in the districts of Tamenglong, Chandel, Ukhrul and Senapati carried out mass rallies today demanding the early solution to the vexed Naga political problem. The rallies which started simultaneously in the four hill districts of Manipur were organised under the aegis of the United Naga Council (UNC).
At the end of the rallies, a memorandum each was submitted to the Prime Minister through the respective deputy commissioner of the districts. The memorandum presses for the early settlement of the long pending Naga issue. During the rallies in these four district headquarters, placards written with slogans like “We want peace, We demand solution, Give peace a Chance, Naga integration is a must” etc. were carried by the rallyists in Senapati district headquarters.
In Ukhrul district, the rally was originated from two places, Hungdung Junction and Kharasom Junction, started simultaneously and converged at Tangkhul Ngala Long (TNL) Ground at around 12.30 pm. An estimate people of around 800 took part in the rally. In the meeting held at the TNL ground, president of Tangkhul Kadamnao Shanklong Wungnaosang, vice-president UNC Somi Tangkhul and social worker Artax Shimray delivered speeches.
In Chandel diistyrict, the Nagas carried out the rally that was kicked-off from Mahaunion Higher Secondary School ground and after proceeding up to Chandel Bazar turned back to the same originating place where a meeting was held. The rally was organised jointly by the Chandel Naga Students Union (CNSU) and Chandel Naga People’s Organisation (CNPO) under the aegis of the UNC. President of the CNSU, KS Warshing and president of CNPO, Victor Nungthung Anal delivered speech on the status of the progress of Indo-Naga Peace Talk.
In Tamenglong district, the UNC sponsored peace rally in the district was participated by around 3000 people. Apart of students of various schools across the district, representatives and members of Zeliangrong Students’ Union, executive member of the interim body of Zeliangrong Union, All Naga Students’ Association Manipur (ANSAM),
Naga People for Human Right Manipur, Senapati, Naga Women Union, Manipur took part in the rally.
The rally started from Tamenglong Mini Stadium where a meeting was held before the rally marched towards the DC Bungalow and submitted a memorandum to the DC for onward submission to the Prime Minister. Slogans like “We support Indo-Naga peace talks, we want Naga integrity, long live collective leadership were shouted by the rallyists marching on the streets under the banner “12 years of peace prayer, no solution, deny Naga, dialogue must be to solution, not in bashan”. The placards written with slogans like “Naga integration through negotiation, Nagas demand honourable settlement” etc. were carried.
