Naga bodies condemn killing of villagers

IMPHAL, March 6 : The United Naga Council, All Naga Student’s Association, Manipur, Naga Women Union, Manipur and Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights has strongly condemned the persistent killing of innocent villagers by armed militant groups operating in the state.

A joint release of the various civil societies while citing various incidents has stated that such incidents have threatened the peaceful co-existence and social harmony of the state.

It has stated that on February 27, AS Phungmi , 35 son of AS Khathing of Kharang village under Yairipok Police station was killed by unidentified suspected valley based armed group.

On November 28, 2009 one Ringphammi, 36, son of AS John of Mailing village was abducted from Tarong village and was later found murdered by unidentified suspected valley based armed groups.

It has stated that such acts are clear violation of international humanitarian laws like the Geneva Convention and its protocol, which are applied to armed conflict.

It has also stated that there are scores of reported and unreported brutality and killing of innocent civilian, which should be condemned by all well-meaning people.

It has also call upon all communities of the state to condemn such acts and to urgently address the problem.
