AR flagging off  the White Water Rafting Expedition at Along, in Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday, February 17.
Dimapur, Feb18 : The Assam Rifles (AR) today flagged off the White Water Rafting Expedition at Along, in Arunachal Pradesh.

As part of the 175th Anniversary Celebration of Assam Rifles, the Force is organising a number of social and sports events all over the country. The White Water Rafting Expedition being conducted by Assam Rifles under aegis of HQ IGAR (North) will cover a distance of more than 70 kms from Along to Pashighat. The team has a cross section of all ranks of Assam Rifles and comprises of 18 members in three rafts, the AR said in a press note.

It also stated that during the expedition the team will halt at Panging and Rotung on its way to Pasighat. Brigadier HS Faujdar, Commander 7 Sector Assam Rifles who was present at the Flag Off ceremony while speaking to the media expressed his satisfaction with the rigorous month long training and preparations of the team. 

Earlier in the day, the Inspector General Assam Rifles (North) in his address to the gathering spoke about the role of ‘Assam Rifles’  in the North East and promised that the organisation which is also called ‘Friends of the Hill People’ will continue to strengthen its bond with the North East.

The address was followed by presentation of kit to the expedition team and refreshments for all. In a symbolic gesture for spreading the message of goodwill and harmony, pigeons and balloons were released by Major General Sandeep Singh SM, VSM, the Inspector General Assam Rifles (North) and Brigadier HS Faujdar, Commander 7 Sector Assam Rifles during the ceremony. Assam Rifles also spread the message to ‘Save the Environment’ by carrying out tree plantation by the Chief Guest and other guests, it added.

The note further mentioned that a large gathering of Assam Rifles persons and civilians wished ‘Good Luck’ to the team as it was ‘Flagged Off’. Brigadier H S Faujdar, Commander 7 Sector Assam Rifles thanked the gathering and conveyed his special appreciation to the Army and the civil administration of the area for the assistance provided by them.
