IIT Delhi scholar Pushpam Sinha, 30, who lived in the same building where Hongray was living with her sister, burnt her to death on Saturday.
Hongray was staying for four months in Delhi with her sister who works in a hotel in Connaught Place.
The body was brought to Ukhrul yesterday.
Leaders of the Tangkhul civil society organisations, including the Tangkhul Shanao Long, an apex body of women’s organisations, attended the funeral.
The Tangkhul civil society organisations have not taken any decision on the course of action to be taken till this afternoon.
However, a source in Ukhrul said the leaders of the civil society organisations were holding consultations to decide how to react to the incident.
The organisations, however, strongly condemned the incident.
The Ukhrul Students’ Union condemned the murder and demanded that the culprit be punished.
In a statement the union said the incident was part of the discrimination against the people from the Northeast and said the national capital was not safe for living for people in the region.
It blamed Delhi’s indifference for the increasing rate of crimes committed against the people from the Northeast.
The Manipuri Diaspora Association, Delhi, also condemned the incident and demanded the severest form of punishment to the culprit.
The association also blamed the insensitivity of the law enforcing agencies.
People from the region were facing many hardships in the capital because of their different identity, it added.
