Over 70 Naga musicians gathered at the two day contemporary music workshop organized by the institution and sponsored by Music Task Force of the Youth Resources & Sports department here at the G. Rio School.
Source said Rockschool is UK’s only dedicated rock and pop examination board under Trinity Guildhall, UK. Trinity Guildhall’s range of qualifications in music is extensive with syllabuses covering a range of styles from contemporary, jazz, popular and commercial music as well as classical. It is working in around 50 countries.
Basing on the declaration of music as “industry” in Nagaland by the state government, MLA Dr. Nicky Kire, advisor to Music Task Force, assured that the Nagaland government will continue to support and encourage the Naga youths in the field of music.
Attending the workshop as the chief guest, Dr. Kire stated that under the leadership of chief minister Neiphiu Rio, the DAN government is showing keen interest to promote the local talents.
“It is for you to take the opportunity as opportunity will not always come,” he said and urged the participants to make the best use of the provided platform and improve upon what they are good at. He also lauded the effort being made by Gugs Chishi, project director of MTF.
Dr. Kire urged upon the Naga youth to involve in the field of music with seriousness and dedication and achieve their desired goals. Stating that the workshop is an attempt to encourage the Naga musicians to go further from here, he said “This is the right step in the right direction.” Also stating that the workshop was designed to enable the Naga musicians to expose their talent and provide employable situation, he asked them to plan for bigger things.
Nibano V. Swuro from the music department of G. Rio School said the welcome address while Khyochano TCK Ngully, official representative of Trinity Guildhall introduced the workshop. The workshop will continue till August 25. The resource persons include well known Naga musicians Opera singer Nise Meruno, guitarist Obed Zeme and drummer Lopeno Ovung. Similar workshop will also be held in Dimapur on August 26. The venue is yet to be announced for Dimapur.
