In this connection, nine persons were arrested and penalised under relevant section of the NLTP Act ’89, and the seized items deposited in the Excise Malkhana. The Superintendent of Excise, in a press release, informed that this was the first excise mobile duty conducted on the highway after the withdrawal of two excise and prohibition check gates by the district administration of Dimapur.
“Going by today’s detection of large quantity of liquor, the national highway being smuggled into the state from Assam it is evidently clear that the bootleggers and smugglers are taking advantage of removing the prohibition check gate.
Nevertheless, the department is contemplating to conduct frisking of suspected vehicles and persons on the road to dwarf the rampant inflow of liquor in the state and therefore we request the public to kindly bear the inconvenience so caused during such mobile checking,” the Superintendent of Excise informed.
