District magistrate Alem Jongshi, in a release, said there was breakdown of law and order in Chingmellen and Sotokur village in the district, badly affecting public peace and security. He said with reports of violence leading to further breakdown of peace and tranquility in Tuensang town endangering human life and property, Section 144 CrPc was re-imposed with immediate effect.

Governor PB Acharya and Chief Minister TR Zeliang have expressed deep anguish over the Tuensang incidents.

The Governor, in a press release, has appealed to the people of Tuensang to maintain peace and harmony among the tribes and urged NGOs, including student bodies, to help maintain peace.

He directed that those responsible for violence and murder should be brought to book immediately to restore confidence in the minds of the affected people.

Chief Minister Zeliang directed the district officials to take all preventive measures to avoid any situation and said the “administration should not be seen as performing the role of only a reporting agency”.

A release said the CM appealed to all the citizens of Tuensang district to shun all forms of violence and killings. Assuring that all possible measures would be taken by the government, Zeliang further urged the civil societies to step forward and mediate in order to resolve all misunderstandings.
