Churches pray for end to crisis

Kohima, Jan. 25: Churches all over the state today prayed for divine intervention to resolve the three-week-old political crisis in the state.
The Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC), the largest church organisation in the state, has appealed to churches in the state to pray for early resolution of political crisis.
The Baptist church said because of the political uncertainty, the government has almost come to a standstill for the past three weeks.
The NBCC is also brokering peace between the two groups of Naga People's Front (NPF) - the main constituent of the ruling Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN).
Special services were also held at Sovima village near Dimapur where 22 MLAs are confined by G. Kaito Aye's group and another group at Hotel De Oriental Grand in Kohima.
Associate pastor of Sumi Baptist Church Kohima, Hokheto Chophy said the NBCC was conducting special services for the two camps so that they could resolve the issue at the earliest.
The Sovima camp of NPF has been demanding resignation of chief minister T.R. Zeliang who is currently commanding the minority group of the NPF. The party has 38 MLAs in the House of 60. Zeliang has refused to quit the chair.
The NBCC and several other Naga organisations, including Naga Hoho, have asked the NPF camps to resolve the issue.
