Nagaland school celebrates 50 years

Kohima, Nov 19 : The people of Atoizu town today celebrated the golden jubilee of one of the most neglected schools in the Nagaland — Government High School in Zunheboto district.
The school was established in 1952 but the state government took over in 1964.
It has produced many prominent people in the state, including a chief minister, Speaker, several cabinet ministers, top bureaucrats and Naga leaders.
But today the school is in a pathetic condition.
Several people today gathered on the school campus along with parliamentary secretary for school education, Yitachu, and district officials.
“The entire community pays tribute to the pioneering figures, who have selflessly contributed to make this celebration a success,” said Toluho Shohe, a former student of the school.
But he also regretted the condition of the school. “Let us re-build it by taking a giant step through the contributions of its alumni. Let us all remember our glorious days and prepare to rejuvenate our school for its 75th anniversary,” said former student Er. Ghunato Shohe.
Former minister Doshehe Y. Sema expressed hope that the people of Atoizu would continue to contribute substantially to the process of prosperity and progress of the state and nation in the years to come.
“Atoizu Government High School was one of the best schools in Nagaland and perhaps that was one of the reasons why our batch was a conglomeration of students from all areas of Zunheboto district and other parts of Nagaland as well,” said a former student.
