The seat has around 18,000 voters with 39 polling stations.
The seat felt vacant after chief minister Neiphiu Rio vacated the seat following his win in the Lok Sabha election in May this year. Rio represented the seat six times (1989- 2013) in the assembly. As of now, the seat is expected to witness a triangular contest with ruling Naga People's Front (NPF), its coalition partner BJP and opposition Congress candidate vying for the seat.
Sources within NPF told TOI that the party was likely to field a new face, the son-in-law of Rio, Neiphrezo Keditsu, for the seat.
BJP is expected to field a retired bureaucrat, sources said.
Already in the opposition for the last 11 years, Congress is finding it hard to find a suitable candidate for the bypolls. A senior Congress leader said, "It will be a trial of strength for Rio and NPF president Dr Shurhozelie."
