KOHIMA,
JUNE 25 (MExN): Vilhousa Movi from Nagaland has emerged winner of the
Northeast Outfit and Voice Fusion, 2014 in the designer category. The
grand finale was held in Shillong on June 5, also commemorating World
Environment Day. Vilhousa was the only Naga designer to make it to the
final round. Few others had also represented Nagaland As the winner, he
is entitled to a promotional tour to London and a cash prize of Rs. 1
lakh. He is also assured a movie project.
Vilhousa comes from Zhavame village under Phek district. He studied at Sacred Heart School Chizami and spent most of his teenage life in the village. The designer recalled being drawn to any kind of handiwork since he was in class 3. He has had orders pouring in even before he started pursuing designing seriously. As a fashion designing graduate, Vilhousa Movi was also adjudged the winner of “Best Creativity” at the graduation show at Government Polytechnic Kohima.
In the recent past, his designs have been showcased in events like Mr. North East, 2012, Miss Teen Nagaland, and NIAPA Designers’ Award. Accomplished designers like Rosou Rhi and Modovina Mocha, are his inspiration, the designer said, while extending his gratitude to friends, well wishers and sponsors who showed immense support towards him in the recently concluded show.
Vilhousa mostly designs ethnic wears and is particularly drawn to colours like white and black, while explaining that these colours go with anything.
The North East India, Ethnic Outfit and Voice Fusion, is a dual event project promoted by Better Life Foundation (BLF), non- profit organization based in Nagaland in collaboration with Worldview Impact Foundation, London.
